Match 10 Preview: Home team Mumbai Indians (57%) have better odds than Delhi Daredevils (43%)

By Amar Dani On April 09, 2013

After losing their opening two matches to Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, Delhi daredevils will look to find their winning streak when they face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhade Stadium on Tuesday.

Captain Mahela Jawardena would be hoping Virendra Shewag to be back on the field after he missed the opening two matches due to back spasm which Delhi lost. Kevin Peterson and Jesse Ryder already being ruled out for the season due to injury, Delhi skipper looks in dire need for the star batsman. The batting looked really shaky in their last matches, despite some good performance provided by the Skipper and David Warner.

Both Warner and Mahela had scored a half century but it is the middle order which is causing all the problems. Lack of solidarity in the middle order cost them the last two matches. Unmukt chand who according to many is one of the most promising players failed to impress thus far.If Shewag declared fit, he might be pushed to the middle order to give some solidarity. Another player who captain Mahela would be hoping to break free is Naman Ojha.

But the bowling department will be most certainly be boosted by the return of Morne Morkel, who is likely to play against Mumbai in place of Russell. Ashis Nehra and Umesh Yadav did pretty good job with the ball so far, but if Shewag is fit to play then Nehra would be the one to sit out. Johan Botha and Shahabaz Nadeem looks to retain their place as the two spinners.

Mumbai will be high on confidence after their triumph over Chennai Super kings who are the top contender for IPL 6. Captain Ricky Pointing is expected to go with the same amalgamation of experience and youth in the side.

Their biggest concern is their batting order, both Ricky Pointing and Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t been best so far. The only player who looked promising is their wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik but eyes will be on Pollard whose heroic 57 off 38 ball turned the match against Chennai. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayadu looked unconvincing in their two innings but will retain the place keeping in mind their abilities.

Return of Lasith Malinga will improve their bowling department especially with his Yorkers and his ability to pick up wickets at crucial stage. Jasprit Bumrah who took 3 wickets on his debut and Munaf Patel will provide the supporting assistance to the spearhead Malinga.
