Prediction: Rajasthan (53%) predicted to defeat Mumbai (47%) (Match scorecard)

The last match in the regular season of IPL this year is also going to be a virtual quarter-final. Rajasthan are in this position because of a self-inflicted wound. Once they looked locked-in for a playoff spot, now they have lost three consecutive matches and are in the danger of getting knocked out if they lose this match. On the other hand, Mumbai have won three consecutive matches and naturally have momentum on their side. One big reason for their success is that they finally have been able to find the right opening pair in Lendl Simmons and Mike Hussey, something they sorely lacked when the season started.

This match will no doubt be contested bitterly, and might end up being the most exciting match of this season. Our model gives a slight advantage to Rajasthan Royals. For them to succeed, they will have to stop experimenting and field a full strength squad in this match. They still have very good players in their team who have been a bit off-form of late, but expect them to get back into the groove in this match and defeat Mumbai Indians to secure the playoff spot.

Cricmetric's current prediction success rate for IPL 2014: 29/54 (54%)
