Prediction: Rajasthan (61%) predicted to defeat Delhi (39%) (Match scorecard)

A defining characteristic of Rajasthan Royals in through these years has been a solid core of Indian players, most of whom are not household names. This year too, they are getting useful contributions from players like Pravin Tambe, Dhawal Kulkarni and Rajat Bhatia. Combine that with the Australian triplet of Shane Watson, James Faulkner and Steve Smith, and you have a really good team that may not look flashy on the paper, but you can always count on to win.

The mediocre performance of Indian players is what has haunted Delhi Daredevils so far in this season. They have tried a total of 17 players, including 7 overseas players. They could field a much stronger team if there was no cap on the number of overseas players in the final eleven. Unfortunately for them, good players like Ross Taylor and Jimmy Neesham will have to sit out again in this match. Such a handicap means that Delhi Daredevils start as underdogs in the Indian leg of the tournament, and our model predicts that Rajasthan should be able to see them off relatively easily.

Cricmetric's current prediction success rate for IPL 2014: 12/21 (57%)
