Prediction: Chennai (59%) predicted to easily defeat Mumbai (41%) (Match scorecard)

Mumbai Indians won their last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chennai Super Kings were routed by Kings XI Punjab in their previous match. So seemingly, the momentum is on the side of Mumbai Indians. They are also playing on their home ground, where historically they have performed well. And they have also performed well against Chennai in the past seasons. All this would point towards Mumbai being the favorites in this match. However, this all the advantage Mumbai have going into this contest, and it is unlikely they will be able to overcome the challenge from Chennai.

For all the batting stalwarts Mumbai have in their team, their batting lineup still doesn't make any sense at all. Even in the T20 format, the right strategy is to have the best batsmen in the team bat for the maximum possible number of overs. Therefore it is surprising why Mumbai is persisting with opening their innings with such batting lightweights as CH Gautam and Aditya Tare, instead of Rohit Sharma or even Corey Anderson. The opening pair of Mumbai Indians has been their Achilles heel so far this season, and they are yet to learn from their mistakes. Chennai Super Kings have no such problems though. Their players have well defined roles, and each one of them has done their part quite well. It took two whirlwind innings from Glenn Maxwell to hand over the two defeats to Chennai they have so far this season. Mumbai will also need a similar such inning - that is, only if they are able to figure out the right batting line-up for themselves. Until then, it is a definite advantage for Chennai in this match.
