Prediction: Punjab (60%) predicted to easily defeat Kolkata (40%) (Match scorecard)

A strike rate of more than 200, a batting average of 50+, four half-centuries and 29 sixes. These statistics might look like a page out of a fantasy page, but this is how Glenn Maxwell has played in this IPL season. To give a perspective, Kolkata Knight Riders as a team collectively have hit as many sixes as Maxwell in this season. As if Maxwell alone was not enough, the opposing teams also have had to face the onslaught from David Miller, Virender Sehwag and George Baily as well. This is just not an ordinary batting line-up, this is a virtual nightmare for the opposing bowlers. Add to that their solid bowling lineup, and it is easy to see why they are almost impossible to defeat.

Kolkata will need more than just an outstanding performance with bat and ball; to defeat Punjab they will also need some luck. Unfortunately, luck hasn't been on their side either since they got the better of Royal Challengers Bangalore in a closely contested match. At least they have a settled batting unit now, and after scoring three ducks Gautam Gambhir finally looks like the batsmen who took his team to championship two years ago. But it is unlikely that they will be able to overcome the juggernaut that Kings XI Punjab, and a tough road to the knock-out stage awaits them in the remaining season.
