Prediction: Rajasthan (56%) predicted to defeat Kolkata (44%) (Match scorecard)

The last time the two teams met in Abu Dhabi, the match ended in a thrilling tie at the end of the two innings. Rajasthan Royals finally emerged as the winner after the super over. It was as close a match as could get, and our pre-match prediction said as much. Since that match, Rajasthan Royals have won two more games, while Kolkata Knight Riders have lost two matches. Clearly, the momentum has shifted towards the Royals, and our prediction for this match reflects this shift. This is still going to be a close match, but don't expect another tie. Rajasthan have a slight edge in this match, and once more they are expected to defeat Kolkata.

While Rajasthan have been playing efficiently as a well-oiled unit, Kolkata have several issues with their roster. Their batting just hasn't been able to deliver, and the problem starts right at the top: Gautam Gambhir has been in a terrible form, and given that he is the captain of Knight Riders, he is unlikely to be dropped from the side. This has put more pressure on Kolkata bowlers. While their bowling has been decent in terms of keeping the opponent's batting rate in control (Sunil Narine has mastered this art), they haven't been able to take wickets as efficiently. But bowling is the lesser of their problems. If the Knight Riders are to make any headway in this tournament, their batting must fire up. Or else they are out.

Cricmetric's current prediction success rate for IPL 2014: 13/24 (54%)
