Game review: Deccan Chargers vs Kings XI Punjab : Match 67

This game was the first of the knockouts in the IPL ( Kings XI would be knocked out if it lost) and we would have expected a close game. Alas it turned out to be a one-sided affair. DC were in charge all the time. Here is what our model had to say about the game. See here Game graph

Turning point: The first wicket partnership between Dhawan and Ravi Teja. There was nothing much that Punjab could do after their blitzkrieg. The Win Probability of the Deccan Chargers had already reached 1, indicating that, in the past, no team had lost after being in this position. And the Deccan Chargers made sure they do not leave this advantage.

Star performer: Sikhar Dhawan, with a win probability added of 0.364. The honorable mention goes to Paul Valthaty, who this time excelled not with his bat, but with his ball – an excelled bowling figure of 24 runs for 1 wicket in 6 overs gave him a 0.334 win probability added, tops among all the bowlers in the game.

Titillation index: 1. Although the batting in the first innings was amazing, the only thing that would have made the game interesting was a fightback from Gilli and co. This didn’t happen, thanks to Valthaty. The game ended up being a formality in the second innings. Alas the streak of uninteresting matches in the IPL continues. This may perhaps end up as the most boring IPL of all time.
