Game graph

Turning point: The first 8 overs in both the innings can be seen as the overs that put Mumbai on top. While in the first innings Mumbai were able to remove the top four batsmen, the second innings saw Mumbai put on an impressive 80 runs. This quick opening partnership made it easier for the rest of batsmen to take their time to keep their nerve when wickets started falling between 8-14 overs. The innings of Franklin was again crucial towards the end when all it required was some cool head to finish the game.

Star performer: Even though KKR lost, the players with the highest WPA in this game were Kallis and Doeschate. Doeschate’s 70 off 49 and Kallis bowling figures of 18/2 in 4 overs kept KKR in the game until the end. MI’s effort today was mostly a team effort with the main contributors being Munaf Patel, Blizzard and Franklin. While Munaf Patel was instrumental in spoiling KKR’s plans in their first innings, Blizzard was the one who made it difficult for KKR to defend their score. Franklin’s cool head came to play when MI was seemingly choking and his innings made sure MI stayed alive in the tournament. Refer to the WPA values presented here.

Titillation index: After the amazing game between RCB and CSK the other day, this game was a worthy second playoff. Although MI was always going to have an easy ride after the start given by Blizzard, a few quick wickets made the game interesting. We give this match a full 10 points on the titillation index, for it is one of those thrillers where although you know what will happen, you are still on the lookout for the miracle.

Overall being a Tendulkar devotee, I can only say
Go MI Go!!
