The anatomy of an average T20 player: Part 2

In the first part of the series on the anatomy of an average T20 player, we looked at what an average bowler in T20 cricket looks like. In the second part of this series, we look at the average batsman in the shortest form of the game. Again, the data we use is that from the 4 seasons of the Indian Premier League. We specifically look at two batting statistics: the average run scored by the batsmen, and their strike rate.

In the four seasons of IPL, the batsmen scored a total of 68,749 runs while facing 55,491 balls. They managed to get themselves out 2858 times. This gives an average of 24.05, and a strike rate of 123.89. On an average, a T20 player faces 19 balls before getting out.

We also analyzed the statistics of individual batsmen to see which of them fit the bill of an average T20 batsman the best. The players are listed in the table below.

Player Inns Not outs Runs Balls Average Strike Rate
IK Pathan 47 15 753 598 23.53 125.91
DJ Hussey 31 6 575 467 23.00 123.12
TL Suman 33 8 609 498 24.36 122.28
SS Tiwary 33 8 645 529 25.80 121.92

This brings to an end the series on the anatomy of an average T20 player. Next, we will do a similar analysis for players in the 50-over game as well.
