Announcing the launch of the Leader Board Page

We just added the Leader Board page on Cricmetric, using which one can generate sortable statistics for players/teams for Cricket matches played year 2002 onwards. Using this tool, one can quickly find the leading players or teams in terms of basic statistics, such as total runs or bowling economy rate. In future, we will also add the display of advanced statistics (such as Wins/Win Probability Added) to the Leader Board page.

Currently the Leader Board page displays statistics for four formats: Test, ODI, T20I and TWENTY20. For the TWENTY20 format, only the IPL/Champions League T20 statistics are counted at present. We will add the statistics of other T20 leagues to our database in due course of time.

As an illustration for the use of the Leader Board page, let us try to answer the question: How good was the Australian “dynasty” during the 2002-2007 period in Test Cricket? The team batting statistics for this period shows that the Australian batsmen collectively batted at an average of 43.3, way ahead of the second-placed Indian team at 36.8. They scored 300+ runs 67 times, again easily topping the charts. For the same period, The Aussies bowled out their opponents 109 times in 132 innings – that’s 83% of the time their opponents came to bat. Again, no one else comes even close. The Australian teams of this era were truly a dominating force, both in terms of bat and ball.
